Teeth Whitening
Brighten up
Teeth whitening seems simple, but makes such a difference to your appearance. Our teeth become stained over time as we eat and drink, experience wear and tear, and age. Whitening breaks up stains within the porous enamel, removing them from your smile.
Opalescence Whitening Options
We offer Opalescence whitening products. Opalescence contains either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. These ingredients react within enamel, disrupting stain molecules. This lightens the teeth by multiple shades.
There are different options available depending on your preferences and schedule. Talk to Dr. Patel about which one might be best for you.
- In-office whitening – This whitening option delivers the quickest, more pronounced results. You’re also assisted throughout by our team, so you don’t need to worry about figuring out the process on your own. Our Opalescence in-office whitening typically requires 2-3 treatments, during which you’ll wear the whitening trays for 20 minutes.
- Home whitening – You are also able to whitening at home, which is a more affordable option. Dr. Patel will provide the necessary products and instructions for each step. There are different options and formulations – custom trays vs. pre-made trays, between 10-15% hydrogen peroxide – and we’ll help you decide what’s best for your goals.
Teeth Whitening FAQ
What type of whitening is best for me?
Schedule a consultation with Dr. Patel to learn what she recommends for your personal needs. Important factors to consider include how soon you’d like to see results, whether you have sensitive teeth, and whether you’d like to whiten at home or in the office.
Will teeth whitening hurt?
Whitening should not be uncomfortable. If you have sensitive teeth, we will work with you to find a formula that delivers results without causing those painful twinges.
What’s the difference between over the counter whitening and professional whitening?
Products that you purchase at a drugstore aren’t selected for your needs, and they typically use whitening strips instead of trays. Trays deliver the whitening gel more efficiently and professional products have a higher whitening agent concentration. You’ll see better results faster and more safely with dentist-provided whitening products.
How long will it take before I see whitening results?
The standard home whitening regimen is once per day for 10 days, or until you have achieved your desired shade. For in-office whitening, you’ll see noticeable results within one hour.
What if whitening doesn’t work for my teeth?
There are some cases in which whitening won’t make a noticeable difference – if you have intrinsic stains, which occur deep within the tooth, or if you have crowns or veneers. Talk to Dr. Patel about options for brightening your smile when whitening isn’t ideal.
